There is a new law regarding pet registration and microchiping in San Antonio. If you own a pet, you are supposed to take your pet’s Rabies vaccine certificate to be registered with the city. If you pet accidentally gets out and gets picked up by animal control then you could be fined for not having the pet licensed, the pet not being spayed or neutered, and/or because your pet was running at large.
Identification tags can be helpful but a pet may get them caught, even break/slip out of their collars making their escape and then what? That is where microchips come in handy!
On April 30, 2015, the San Antonio City Council unanimously approved a new pet licensing program. An ordinance amendment was approved making a registered microchip the primary means of licensing for pets living within the San Antonio city limits. Owners whose pets have a current City license will be in compliance until those licenses expire at which point their pet must have a registered microchip. If your pet’s license is already expired, you will be unable to purchase a new license; instead you will need to purchase a registered microchip. The new ordinance will go into effect June 30, 2015.
We use AKC microchips… there are no annual fees and we will register it for you! Give us a call (210-651-1384) or e-mail us (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule an appointment to have a microchip placed if your pet is in need of one or if you have any further questions regarding microchips or the new law.
